DailyBurn Automatically Logs Weight/Bodyfat with New Internet-enabled Scales

by Andy on November 25, 2009

Here at DailyBurn, we believe that tracking your health stats empowers you to make healthy life choices.  A lot of the new features and capabilities on our site are designed to make it even easier for you to track your fitness. That is why we are super-excited to announce today that we integrate with two new “Internet-enabled” scales.  Basically, you step on the scale, and we automatically save your info on DailyBurn!  It really can’t get any easier than that to track your weight change over time.

The first two scales that we have integrated with are the Withings Body Scale and the BodyTrace eScale.  Both of these scales are very cool, and we don’t endorse one over the other because they both have advantages and do different things.  Let’s take a look at some of the specifics:

Withings Body Scale

Withings Body Scale

The Withings Body Scale is the first WiFi-enabled scale that sends your body weight and body fat measurements over the Internet, automatically syncing your stats with DailyBurn. This scale has a price-point of $160.  Distinctive features of this scale include: body fat tracking, support for multiple users, and direct connection to the Internet over your WiFi network.

DailyBurn has partnered with Withings to offer FREE shipping exclusively for DailyBurn users. Use coupon code “DAILYWITHINGS” during checkout to take advantage.

Order your own Withings Body Scale and take advantage of this offer:

BodyTrace eScale

The BodyTrace eScale also automatically sends your weight into your DailyBurn account.  However, this device does not use WiFi (it uses GSM – basically cell phone service) and requires no setup when you purchase through DailyBurn.  Basically, you get the scale in the mail, step on the scale, and it records your weight into DailyBurn.  BodyTrace has multiple payment options for the scale, starting from $20 with a small monthly fee.  You can learn more about the BodyTrace eScale and pricing options by using this link.

Setting Up Your Scale

If you purchased the BodyTrace eScale, there is absolutely no setup necessary.  Basically, you get the scale in the mail, step on the scale, and it records your weight into DailyBurn.

If you purchased the Withings scale, there will be some setup per the manufacturers instructions. After you have setup your new scale, visit the DailyBurn Apps page to link it to your DailyBurn account.

Just The Beginning

We want to make it easier and easier for you to track you fitness, and these scales are just the beginning!  Keep watching this blog for announcements of new devices that integrate with DailyBurn.  If your company has a product that you think should integrate with us, then feel free to reach out to us by using our contact page.

Oh yeah, and these scales make perfect holiday gifts… hint hint :-)

In the past you have said you don't think body fat scales are accurate enough to use, is the body fat measurement on the Withings Body Scale useful?

reference:
from the "How do I calculate my body fat percentage?" pop up from the page http://dailyburn.com/diet_setup/setup

"While there is no substitute for a professional assessment of body fat, you can easily and privately calculate your body fat percentage using calipers. We do not recommend the use of scales with body fat analyzers as these are known not to be very accurate."

Ebullient,

I would agree that body fat measurements from scales are not as accurate as calipers, but the fact is that this is easier for most people. Personally, I like the scales for weight.

You should also mention that the Withings scale can be used with up to 8 users, while the BodyTrace only supports a single users, and you would need 8 of them to get the same functionality.

Yeah, I mention that the Withings scale supports multiple users in the post. Both scales have differences and distinct advantages…

Cool – I look forward to your integration with more things!

Any chance of integration with something like FitBit (fitbit.com), Nike+, or BodyBugg? I think I'd prefer FitBit as they don't have a monthly fee.

whoa… now that's pretty cool.
Funny, this was mentioned to me last month but it didn't really register with me at how powerful this could be.

I'm trying to use the free shipping code for the Withings scale and its not working. I live in the US. Did it expire?

Reply

I suspect it didn't expire, but rather the 10% off (for Black Friday) sale trumps it (as in, you can't use both discounts at once.)

It doesn't look like the Free Shipping code is working for Canada.

I don't now if the scales have droid applications. DailyBurn does not have a droid app yet… the scales really work well integrated with DailyBurn though… I use mine everyday!

The Daily Burn Aps page only seems to have a link to order the Withings scale…how do you connect it to the Dialy Burn account? I got the scale for Christmas and am dying to get it hooked in with my Dailyburn stats

There is a link (not a button) right under the order now button that lets you link your account. If you can't find, please send an email to our support site!
