DailyBurn Fitness Challenge

db-CEO-challenge

On August 17, I invite you to join me in changing your life.  For 90-days, we are going to eat right, workout hard, and get fit.

Here is is my official welcome video:

Anybody can participate in this challenge.  It doesn’t matter if you are 18 or 80.  You just have to commit to get fit and do something about it over the next 90 days.  We aren’t going to recommend a certain workout routine or diet plan.  People are different and we all have different goals.  There are plenty of books and web resources that you can use to build out your plan of attack.  A great place to start would be to look through the DailyBurn workouts section.  I’ll be explaining what I plan to do over the 90-day challenge in a follow-up post.  You can join me or do your own thing.  It doesn’t matter – just do something!

To officially join the challenge (and be eligible for the prizes) you will need to do the following:

  1. Join one of the official DailyBurn Challenges:
  2. Create and upload a YouTube video that does the following:
    • Mentions that you are officially joining the “DailyBurn Fitness Challenge”
    • Explains the goals you have over the next 90 days. Creative videos are highly encouraged.
    • Shows or describes your initial starting stats (weight, body fat, age, etc.). Showing the actual scale and “proving” the date will help with judging, but is not totally necessary. Update: If you are sensitive about your weight/bodyfat, you don’t have to say it on camera.  You can just send it to us as in #4 below…
  3. Post links to your video in the comments and in the forums of the DailyBurn challenges that you joined.  This will serve as “proof” of the beginning of your challenge.  Look for the quick way to include YouTube videos in the comments, it looks like this: youtube
  4. Email ceochallenge@dailyburn.com with your Name, Address, Email, DailyBurn User account, and YouTube entry video URL.
  5. At the end of the challenge, on November 17, 2009, you will need to submit another YouTube video with your final results.  We will give you instructions on final submission on this blog.

To officially “kick things off”, I have uploaded my YouTube entry video. Here is my entry video, and you can also see it in the comments.

We highly encourage you to track your weight, food, workouts, and other activity on DailyBurn during the challenge.  Keeping up with this information will help you stay honest and allows the community to help keep you motivated.  We also encourage you to tell lots of people about your 90-day commitment!  Positive peer pressure is a great motivator.

I’ll be describing specific steps I am taking during the 90-days along with other tips and tricks I learn to this blog, so be sure to subscribe by RSS, email, or twitter.

After the end of the 90-day challenge, the DailyBurn staff will view the results and pick one winner for each challenge.  We will also have a prize for the “best transformation story” during this challenge. We will explain the prizes in a follow-on post.

OK, and now for some legal mumbo-jumbo:

  1. Do the right thing.  Don’t do some crazy diet that hurts you.  Ask your doctor before beginning any exercise or diet changes.
  2. We are limiting prizes to United States only.  Feel free to participate wherever you are, but we can only ship prizes in the USA.
  3. Don’t enter this competition if prohibited by law where you live.
  4. Here is a link to the full terms and conditions.

This challenge wouldn’t be possible without the help of our sponsors. Please visit these fine organizations and also let them know you appreciate their support of this challenge.

Does this mean Beyonce has entered our challenge? :-) Not exactly what we are looking for an entry video though…

I'm very excited about the challenge. I definitely plan on participating, and I have already thought some about what my "entry video" will entail.

Q: Do we have to include all of the stats mentioned, or as much as possible, or what?

I'm looking forward to participating, and I've also started recruiting some other participants to form a "support group" of sorts.

5 @andysmith August 5, 2009 at 4:11 pm

Glad you are joining!

You don't have to include all the stats mentioned. As much as you feel comfortable… But, if you are joining the weight loss challenge you should at least give starting weight. Same with fat loss challenge, you need to give your starting body fat number.

We love to hear stories too, so be as creative as you want to with your video.

Welcome to the challenge!

I'm excited to participate in the 2009 Dailyburn CEO "Weight Loss" CEO Challenge! I've done and tried everything, and lately I can't even work a full day without crashing. I think I'm doing everything right, for the first time, it should be a great ride. I'm excited not only for the support all around me, but to provide support for others as well!

Why cant we have prizes for people in other country? This is not fair. By having prize, it will encourage them to burn fat

Reply

17 @andysmith August 13, 2009 at 2:21 pm

We certainly hope people from other countries will participate, we just won't be able to send prizes this round… Maybe next time.

I just mentioned this in another post, how about offering some of the users abroad an upgrade to a Pro account or something? or maybe you could give me some job references lol!
"CEO of DailyBurn vouches for Vlad" haha!
Doesn't have to be anything major, but the thought of a prize is very nice! =D

Reply

19 Ryan Shwayder August 19, 2009 at 12:16 pm

There are a lot of legal issues that you have to get around in order to offer prizes of any kind to those outside of the US/Canada. I don't work for DailyBurn, but I have dealt with numerous contests for a gaming company and we could rarely ever offer prizes abroad. It sucks, and nobody does it to be a jerk, they do it because it's legally problematic.

Hello Everyone, Looking forward to hearing about all of your progress over the next 90 days. Here is my entrance video.

I'm currently 194 lbs, 15% body fat, and I am attempting to get closer to looking like this. http://www.superherotimes.com/newsarchive/SilverS...

He's quite a good role model.

My goal is to weigh 200lbs with below 11% body fat and a torn up six pack. I would like to be able to knock out 20 pull ups and push 750lbs on the leg press.

I plan on following a diet similar to the Zone Diet. http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/cfjissue21_M...

Hitting the Gym 5 days a week.
Monday – Legs
Tuesday – Chest
Wednesday – Rest
Thursday – Back
Friday – Arms
Sunday – Shoulders

Also I will focus on sleeping 8 hrs a night, drinking red wine every day, limiting carbs after 1pm, and to keep moving!

Good luck everyone on maintaining the focus needed to stick to your goals! -Darus[youtube 4cHZyCxDF5c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cHZyCxDF5c youtube]

Richard Moss from dealnews.com here. Can't really make a video at the moment, but will hopefully be able to do that later. For now, text will have to do (not entering to win prizes anyway, as we are a sponsor of the contest).

Current sats: 39 yrs old, 6' 2", 214lbs. Body fat: too much!

Goals: Get the weight down to 190.

Plan: Eat less! Breakfast cereals for some dinners (I like cereal anyway), and cut back on those lunches with the guys from the office. Minimal snacking between meals. Work out with dumbbells and body weight exercises three times a week. This formula has worked for me before, but I didn't stick with it long term. So goal 1 is get back down to a healthy weight, and goal 2 is to maintain.

To everyone who is entering: stay strong! If you are working out, remember this quote: "I have often dreading going to the gym, but I've never once regretted it after I went."

Don't have a way for video, but I'm not in this challenge for prizes other than maybe a little bit of that elusive self-confidence that everyone is talking about :)

Current stats: 27 yrs old, 6', 243.5lbs. on Aug 17th. Body fat: causin' me to lose my sexy, and I can't afford to lose any more of that!

Goals: Get down to at least 195.

Plan: Eat less King McWendy Hut and consume more awesome!

Modestoluke is killing it! Congrats!

Wilfenstein – love that you realize that you need to get your sexy back…gotta have that. Welcome aboard… I don't think any of us are here for the prizes…heck we don't even know what the prizes are….but I think that many of us are already winners, no matter what happens in the end. I know that I have not ever had a sustained and consistent weight loss in the last 20 years, and I give the credit to Dailyburn and the great people here. The entire site, from tracking food and exercise (and I love Foodscanner!) to the challenges and interaction keeps me accountable and involved in this battle, and it makes it fun. We end up not only being accountalbe to ourselves, but to each other…and I am excited for not only my success but everyone elses' as well. Again, welcome…and give me a shout if there is anything that I can do for you!
